Liebl’s large-scale watercolors are known for their striking use of negative space and a unique blend of still life and abstract expressionism; one curator dubbed her “a modernist with classical roots.” In her exhibition this month at the SteamPlant, Liebl explores different aspects of the word “home”: boxes that move us from house to house, the jumble of items we find when we move, the plants that grow in our gardens. Several pieces in the show are inspired by Liebl’s son and daughter-in-law, Salida locals Sam and Jillian Liebl, who teach primitive and survival skills in the Arkansas Valley.
